Meet Our Board of Directors

Born and raised in New York and San Francisco, Andrea was educated at Radcliffe College, Harvard University, The University of California, Berkeley and King’s College, London where she pursued undergraduate and graduate studies in Mathematics.
Andrea became the first woman teacher at St. Paul’s Boys’ School and then again at King’s College School in London. She also spent a year as an investment analyst with Quilter, Hilton, and Goodison. She temporarily retired to have her six children but returned to education with her first major school project, the foundation of Abercorn School in 1987.
Based on the success of Abercorn and her knowledge of the US system and the NY market, Andrea opened the British International School of New York in 2006.
She intends to build a national chain of British International Schools in the United States and is also looking at selected international locations.
Anthony Millard runs his own educational consultancy, Anthony Millard Consulting, having been managing director of Nord Anglia PLC’s Schools Division. This followed 15 years as Headmaster of two HMC schools, Wycliffe and Giggleswick. In 2000 Anthony was Chairman of the Boarding Schools Association. Anthony is currently Chairman of the Board of the British International School New York.
Anthony Millard Consulting is responsible for:
- appointing Heads and Bursars in both the independent and maintained sectors, and internationally
- advising school governing bodies on governance, strategy, marketing/PR and fund-raising
- briefing education businesses, government and non-governmental organisations on British independent education both in the UK and abroad
Anthony was educated at The London School of Economics and Balliol College Oxford. He was a stagiaire with the Commission of the European Union. Anthony’s interests are politics (he stood as a candidate in the 2001 general election) restoring a Cotswold cottage with the Thames at the foot of its garden, and finding husbands for all of his daughters!
Dr. Bill Mules
Bill Mules has spent his entire career in education as a teacher of English (American style), a houseparent, counselor, coach, division head, and… for thirty-two years Headmaster. In 2007 he retired from the post of Head of School at The American School in London after nine years in that assignment. It was in that year that Bill joined the Board of The British International School of New York. He also serves on the Foundation Board of The American School in London.
Bill was educated at Princeton University (AB in English), The Johns Hopkins University (Masters in Education), and The University of Virginia (Doctorate in Education.) He has taught at the college level (McDaniel College) and served as a Dean at Washington and Lee University.
Bill and his wife Mimi (She is a medical researcher at Johns Hopkins Medical School) live in Baltimore. They have two daughters, Rebecca and Blake, and two grandchildren, Will and Caroline. Photos of the grandchildren are available upon request.
Educated in London at St. Pauls’ Girl’s School, Abigail attended the University of Manchester where she studied Linguistics. There she discovered a passion not only for words but communication on a more holistic level. She undertook a Masters degree in Marketing and Management at Middlesex Buisness School.
Following her MA, Abigail worked for various Advertising agencies including Publicis before moving ‘client-side’ as a Brand Manager for L’Oreal in London.
After two years she moved to New York with L’Oreal to assist in the launch of a new cosmetics line for the company.
Looking for a change away from consumer goods and a move into a more strategic role in the family business, Abigail joined BIS-NY as Strategic Director in 2006. She is responsible for the management of the growth and direction of the school and is Resident Director for the Board of BIS-NY.
Alex graduated from Trinity College, Cambridge and continued his studies at the University of Texas where he completed his Masters.
Alex qualified in 1999 into litigation at Slaughter & May and went on to practice at Morgan Lewis and most recently White & Case.
Alex is a director of and adviser to a number of entrepreneurial companies.
Alex now lives in Austin, Texas with his wife and two children.
Sheila joins the IBS Board with a wealth of knowledge gained from extensive experience as a partner in a London based top twenty firm of chartered accountants. Her professional connections with the school in London go back over many years.
Sheila is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England & Wales (FCA) and currently operates her own practice acting for owner managed businesses and private clients. Sheila lives in Dorset.
