A little piece of Hogwarts in Austin
Harry Potter fans will be intrigued to know that Austin boasts a private school with echoes of Hogwarts. Offering a rich curriculum that combines elements from England with the International Baccalaureate, Abercorn International School offers a selective education to students who wear classically designed uniforms, are members of Houses (not Slytherin and Ravenclaw but instead Dickens or Shakespeare) and compete fiercely for House prizes on a very peculiarly English sports day.
Students from all over Austin, America and the world come together, learning the magic of foreign languages from their first day at School and emerge as academic wizards with a global education.
Older wizards (up to age twelve) take care of the younger wizards (who start as young as two). All enjoy five full days a week of education.
Everyone knows that the best wizard is a well fed wizard. Abercorn offers an organic, freshly made healthy eating program every day with fortunately none of the less tasty Hogwart items such as Tripe or Haggis.
Abercorn’s school year is similar to that of Hogwarts being structured in a similar way to other non-magical schools and colleges in the UK, with a three-term year punctuated by holidays at Christmas and Easter and rounded off by the long summer holiday of eight weeks.
