Abercorn International School ‘do their bit’ for Thanksgiving
Thanksgiving is one of America’s most treasured holidays, a time for getting together and giving thanks for all the wonderful people and things we share in our lives.
It’s a tradition that we are all keen to pass on to our children and this year the children at Abercorn International School in Lakeway, were asked to reflect on an old Russian proverb by the Headmistress, Grainne O’Reilly, “If everyone gives a thread, then the poor man will have a shirt.”
With this in mind, each pupil took home an empty shopping bag and were asked to fill it with nutritious food for those less fortunate than themselves. The initiative was in association with the Capital Area Food Bank, in partnership with Whole Foods Market, who provided the bags.
When the 130 students aged from 2 ½ to 11 years brought back their bags, they amassed a whopping 1,167 pounds of food, enough to provide 937 meals to families in need.
The food was delivered on Friday, November 16th to the people at the Capital Area Food Bank, who said this was their largest donation of food to date.
